About Us

For the people of Bridgwater and Sedgemoor

The Hub is what happens when organisations work together, with one goal in mind: To improve the lives of the people living in our area.

We work with a number of different agencies, organisations and councils, to try and provide a service for anyone in the Bridgwater and Sedgemoor District, regardless of their background, needs or status.

Our Story

The Hub was founded on the back of the Bridgwater Dementia Action Alliance, by John Hardy.

John had a career in nursing and social care for over forty years. In August 2014 he had a stroke which caused a major loss of sight overnight. As he could no longer work in his chosen career he had to make adjustments to his life, one of which was making space for Sidney, his Guide Dog.

John had already established the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA), through a request from his late mother, Marjorie. She was also a nurse and gave John a bucket list to use her late estate, in a project to benefit the people of the local area and have a theme of improving health and wellbeing.

John decided to found the Hub due to the developing network across the community, originating from  the DAA. He felt it would be beneficial to centralise it and The Hub, that we know today was born.

The Hub works with many groups and organisations across the community to ensure that people know where to find help and support when it is needed.

Along with Sidney, without whom his work would not be possible, John strives to ensure that not a single person, family or group is left to fend for themselves. This is the ethos of The Hub at Bridgwater.
